The Sonic Terminator, Parts 1 and 2

 

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG.

 

SLAVE SHIP.

This is the start of a five episode sequence which will conclude with Sonic's battle with Metal Sonic, the character from the Sonic CD game. The final confrontation will take place on the Little Planet which is linked to Mobius by a chain.

 

PAGE 1. 

I imagine this opening page as being made up of four full-width panels of various sizes. I also think it might be a good idea not to have the title appear until page three.

 

1. Sonic is in the centre of the panel quite a way from us looking small and scared. He is in some kind of metal room - pipes and wires along the wall. The place is dark and there is an air of menace. Sonic is running towards us fast.

 

2. Sonic is still facing the front running, he is closer now and we see him from about the waist up - he still looks scared.

 

3. Sonic is now close up, only his head is in view. He turns to face something just coming into the panel from the side, it is a hand and it belongs to the Metal Sonic, it is zooming towards Sonic at high speed. In this episode we do not get a clear view of Metal Sonic.

 

4. Big panel. Sonic has been struck very hard and is lifted into the air - he looks hurt. The owner of the hand has streaked past him after delivering this deadly blow. We can just about make out a figure in the speed-lines. Also Metal Sonic has surrounded himself in his electrical forcefield so he is further obscured.

 

Sonic:      AAARGGGGH!

 

SFX:  SK-RRRTCH!

 

PAGE 2.

 

1. In the corner of the room Sonic is trying get to his feet, he looks really stunned. The hand is just reaching into shot towards him - the forcefield is still there.

 

2. Close up of Sonic's face. He has his head thrown back and is screaming in agony. He has been given an enormous electrical shock.

 

Sonic:      AAAAAAAAAAA!!

 

3. The hand is in shot at the side of the panel. Snively has just stepped in front of its owner and is gesturing for him to stand back. He is looking down at the place where Sonic is lying although Sonic is actually out of shot.

 

Snively:      THAT'S ENOUGH! HE'S FINISHED, BACK OFF.

 

4. We cut to a view of the fallen Sonic and see that it is only a robot, it is damaged and cogs and stuff are showing. Snively is standing over the wreckage.

 

Snively:      VERY IMPRESSIVE! THIS PRACTICE ROBOT IS       COMPLETELY WRECKED!

 

5. Large panel. Dr Robotnik has appeared looking insanely happy and evil. Snively crouches over the remains of the Sonic practice robot, examining them. The hand and maybe part of the body of Metal Sonic are also in shot. Since his regeneration, Robotnik has stopped inserting the word 'egg' into his sentences - unless I am told differently, of course.

 

Robotnik:      EXCELLENT!! THAT WAS THE FINAL TEST!

 

Robotnik:      SOON IT WILL BE TIME TO BEGIN OPERATION       TERMINATE SONIC!!

 

PAGE 3.

 

1. Large panel showing the Emerald Hill Village. The people of the village are being rounded up and herded onto a escalator-type of arrangement which leads them up into a hovering aircraft. The aircraft is of futuristic design but should have the feel of a slave ship to it. To make things easier later on, we are going to have all the action taking place on the 'deck' so design the ship in an appropriate way. Since it is a prison ship it will have to have room inside for it to contain a lot of prisoners. The kind of feel I'm looking for is that of a tall ship from, I guess, the 17th century but in a futuristic world. Sonic (hidden from the Badnik's view) is watching the army Badniks forcing the citizens onto the escalator at gunpoint. The time of day is dawn so we could have some nice dramatic red skies. Since Sonic does not speak in this panel, he should be in the extreme foreground so he is large - we might only be able to see a back three-quarters view of his head and some of his body.

 

I think this panel should contain the titles.

 

Caption:      DAWN, AND ROBOTNIK'S TROOPS MAKE A RAID ON       THE EMERALD HILL ZONE.

 

Badnik:      KEEP IT MOVING YOU HILL ZONE SCUM!

 

2. Sonic has now left his hiding spot and has climbed down a bank to meet his gang (Johnny Lightfoot, Porker Lewis, Tails and Amy Rose), all wearing the Sonic jackets.

 

Sonic:      OUR INFORMATION WAS SPOT ON. IT LOOKS LIKE       ROBOTNIK IS ARRESTING THE ENTIRE VILLAGE!

 

3. Amy, Porker and whoever else of Sonic's gang you can get comfortably into the panel.

 

Porker Lewis:      IT WOULD SEEM ROBOTNIK IS STEPPING UP HIS   BADNIK PRODUCTION.

 

Amy Rose:      WE CAN'T LET HIM TURN ALL THOSE PEOPLE INTO       BADNIKS!

 

4. Sonic leaps over the hill at Sonic speed. The others watch him from behind looking surprised.

 

Sonic:      YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH!       LET'S GO TO IT!!

 

Johnny:      SONIC! WE HAVEN'T GOT A PLAN!

 

PAGE 4.

 

1. Sonic, now in the midst of the Badniks, tears through one, smashing it to pieces.

 

Sonic:      HOW'S THIS FOR A PLAN?!

 

2. Led by Johnny, the others are now running up the hill to join the fight. Porker has his electronic tricorder-like gadget, Johnny his quarterstaff, Tails can do his super spin attack so he needs no weapon and I think Amy should have a pistol of some sort. I think it is important that Amy's pistol is some kind of laser weapon (I'm not really happy with our heroes having real guns in this strip) and it should look unlike any kind of genuine gun - perhaps it should resemble a single handed cross-bow, in keeping with our vague Robin Hood theme? At some time in the future I think I will demonstrate that Amy is a crack shot since I want her to be an asset to the group - which Sonic will hate.

 

Johnny:      OH WHAT'S THE USE? COME ON GUYS!

 

3. Large panel. The entire group are surrounded by Army Badniks all pointing their guns at our heroes who are convincingly trapped. Sonic looks smug and unperturbed; he has a secret plan that he hasn't told the others about. The rest of the gang are anxious.

 

Army Badnik:      DON'T MOVE A MUSCLE, FURBALLS!

 

2nd Army Badnik:      LOOK! THAT'S SONIC THE HEDGEHOG! ROBOTNIK       WILL REWARD US WELL FOR THIS!

 

4. Johnny turns to Sonic and speaks angrily to him. Sonic is grinning away like mad.

 

Johnny:      NICE PLAN, SONIC! REAL NICE!

 

Sonic:      HEY, EVERYBODY HAS AN OFF-DAY!

 

5. The gang are herded onto the escalator leading up to the prison ship.

 

Army Badnik:      ALL RIGHT, ON TO THE PRISON SHIP WITH THE REST       OF YOUR FURRY FRIENDS!

 

Sonic:      I HOPE YOU REALISE I ALWAYS TRAVEL FIRST CLASS.

 

Army Badnik:      MOVE!!

 

PAGE 5.

 

1. Establishing shot of the prison ship in flight - it is just in the sky, by the way.

 

Balloon:      YOU REVOLUTIONARIES HAVE BEEN A THORN IN THE       SIDE OF DOCTOR ROBOTNIK LONG ENOUGH!...

 

2. On the deck of the ship Sonic and his gang face the captain of the ship, guarded by Army Robotniks. I think the captain should be standing at the futuristic equivalent of the ship's wheel. The captain is a humanised animal - a fat, ugly walrus perhaps? And I think we should put him in a uniform of the Robotnik army - a sort of Nazi officer. There has been a word of warning from Sega regarding the Nazi imagery so it might be worth checking with Richard Burton for what is acceptable. The captain is called Captain Trusk. Porker looks the most scared of the group and Sonic is still grinning. The weapons belonging to Sonic's gang are out of reach of their owners in this picture.

 

Trusk:      ...BUT ALL THAT WILL END WITH YOUR VISIT TO THE       VEG-O-FORTRESS ON MOUNT MOBIUS.

 

Porker Lewis:      R.. ROBOTNIK'S NEW BADNIK PROCESSING PLANT?

 

3. Close up of the sinister-looking Captain Trusk.

 

Trusk:      YOU'LL BE AMAZED AT THE IMPROVEMENTS IN    BADNIK TECHNOLOGY! SOON YOU'LL ALL BE       WILLING BADNIK SLAVES... DEVOTED TO YOUR WORK      FOR THE GREAT ROBOTNIK!

 

4. Sonic answers his captor, looking especially smug and pleased with himself.

 

Sonic:      THAT ALL SOUNDS VERY NICE. BUT I THINK I'LL SETTLE FOR RESCUING ALL THE PRISONERS, IF IT'S       ALL THE SAME TO YOU...

 

Sonic:      TAKE A LOOK BEHIND YOU, UGLY...

 

5. The pirate ship from the Pirates Of The Mystic Cave story has come close behind the prison ship. The pirate ship is shooting some grappling hooks on ropes across to the other ship.

PAGE 6.

 

1. Shot of Captain Plunder and Filch on the pirate ship.

 

Filch:      WE'VE ATTACHED A LINE TO YON PRISON SHIP,       CAP'N PLUNDER!

 

Plunder:      ALL RIGHT LADS... WAIT 'TILL WE DRAW THEM CLOSE       ENOUGH! THEN...

 

2. Dramatic shot of all the pirates leaping off the side of their ship.

 

Plunder:      ...ATTACK!!

 

3. In the foreground Johnny is talking to Sonic; Johnny looks quizzical, Sonic is still grinning. Behind them we can see the pirates jumping from their ship and attacking the Army Badniks. If there's room we should see Captain Trusk looking panicky.

 

Johnny:      THESE PIRATES... SONIC YOU DID HAVE A PLAN! WHY       DIDN'T YOU TELL US!?

 

Sonic:      AND SPOIL THE SURPRISE?

 

4. Sonic flanked by his gang make ready to join the attack. His gang have picked up their respective weapons.

 

Sonic:      C'MON GUYS... LET'S GIVE CAPTAIN PLUNDER A       LITTLE HELP HERE!

 

5. Large panel showing the fight. All the pirates are on the slave ship's deck attacking the Army Badniks. Porker is using his tricorder-like device to cause a robot to malfunction, Johnny is using his quarterstaff, Sonic and Tails are spin attacking and Amy uses her gun to blast one of the Badnik's weapons to pieces. Captain Trusk is also about the place somewhere.

 

PAGE 7.

 

1. The fight is over, the pirates have won and in the background we see them restraining Captain Trusk. In the foreground Porker is talking to Filch.

 

Caption:      SOON.

 

Filch:      WELL THAT JUST ABOUT TAKES CARE OF THOSE       SWABS, I RECKON!

 

Porker Lewis:      THE DEAL SONIC MADE WITH YOU PIRATES IS SURE       PAYING OFF... FOR BOTH SIDES!

 

2. Head and shoulders shot of Porker looking pompous as he speaks.

 

Porker Lewis:      WE GIVE YOU INTELLIGENCE INFORMATION SO YOU       KNOW WHEN ROBOTNIK IS TRANSPORTING       ANYTHING WORTH STEALING, AND YOU PIRATES GIVE       US A LITTLE EXTRA MUSCLE WHEN WE NEED IT!

 

3. Filch continues talking to Porker but he now has a sneaky expression on his face. Go over the top here and make Filch's expression very exaggerated.

 

Filch:      AND TO THINK CAPTAIN PLUNDER STARTED OUT       WANTING TO STEAL SONIC'S CHAOS EMERALDS,       EH?...

 

Porker Lewis:      HEH, THOSE EMERALDS ARE STAYING IN THE NORTH       CAVE ON SOUTH ISLAND WHERE SONIC HID THEM!

 

4. In the foreground Porker faces the reader with a look of wild shock on his face - distort his features as much as you dare. Behind him Filch is excitedly running up to Captain Plunder to tell him something.

 

Porker Lewis:      AAARRGGGGH! WHAT HAVE I SAID?!!

 

5. Large final panel showing the pirate ship flying away at speed. Sonic is watching it from the deck of the slave ship. Porker is nervously approaching him from behind. Fit in any of the other cast that you can.

 

Sonic:      BOY, THOSE PIRATES ARE SURE IN A HURRY!

 

Porker Lewis:      SONIC? I THINK THAT THERE'S SOMETHING I SHOULD       TELL YOU...

SECRET OF THE NORTH CAVE.

This is the second instalment of the five episode sequence. I will leave the ending with a link to the third part but will do it in such a way that you can insert a one-off story if you need to.

 

In this episode I establish that all the Hill Zones, which are basically all versions of the same zone, are situated on South Island. South Island is also the location of The North Cave which is home to the Chaos Emeralds. 

 

PAGE 1.

 

1. Distance shot of a piece of the coastline of South Island.

 

Caption:      SOUTH ISLAND ON PLANET MOBIUS.

 

2. Closer shot of part of the island. We can see that the landscape is recognisable as that of The Emerald Hill Zone.

 

Caption:      LOCATION OF THE GREEN HILL AND EMERALD       HILL ZONES AMONGST OTHERS.

 

3. View of a different part of the island, the far northern region. This area is a frozen wasteland (but let's have some signs of weird rock formations or ruined buildings or whatever takes your fancy).

 

Caption:      AT THE NORTHERN TIP OF THE ISLAND IS THE FROZEN       ZONE. A ZONE OF PERPETUAL WINTER.

 

4. Picture of a rock face with the entrance to a natural cave in it. The pirate's flying ship is hovering above the ground and a rope leads from it to the ground where it has tied up. Perhaps there should be some rigging reaching from the ship to the ground which the pirates have used to climb down. Have the ship's skull and crossbones flag clearly showing.

 

Caption:      IT IS ALSO THE LOCATION OF THE NORTH CAVE, THE       SECRET PLACE WHERE SONIC HAS HIDDEN THE SIX   CHAOS EMERALDS...

 

Caption:      ...A SECRET THAT IS UNTIL TODAY...

 

5. Large panel showing Captain Plunder, Filch and the pirates inside the North Cave. Show the usual rock formations that you find in these cave - stalactites and so on. The cave is lit by weird multicoloured light - it will turn out that this light is coming from the variously coloured Chaos Emeralds which are hidden in a pool that we will see later. This is a large cave with tunnels leading off.

 

Captain Plunder:      HEH, SONIC IS GONNA MAKE PORK CHOPS OUT OF       LEWIS WHEN HE FINDS OUT WHAT HE TOLD US!

 

Filch:      YUP, THAT PIG'S SURE ENOUGH GOT A BIG MOUTH,       CAP'N PLUNDER!

 

PAGE 2.

 

1. Captain Plunder barks orders at his crew.

 

Captain Plunder:      ALL RIGHT YOU SWABS, SPREAD OUT! A FLAGON OF       RUM TO THE MAN WHO FINDS THOSE CHAOS       EMERALDS!!

 

2. Out of nowhere Sonic and his entire gang have appeared, each armed with their respective weapons. The gang are Johnny Lightfoot, Amy Rose, Porker Lewis and Tails. Captain Plunder reacts with shock.

 

Sonic:      MAKE THAT AN EXTRA LARGE COLA AND YOU GOT A       DEAL!!

 

Captain Plunder:      SONIC?!

 

3. Close up of the grinning Sonic.

 

Sonic:      YOU DIDN'T REALLY THINK WE'D LET YOU JUST WALK       OUT OF HERE WITH THE CHAOS EMERALDS, DID   YOU?

 

4. Dramatic shot of the Captain with his murderous pirate crew. The Captain is pointing out towards the reader looking fierce.

 

Captain Plunder:      GET THEM MEN!!

 

Captain Plunder:      FIVE OF YOU AGAINST ALL OF US... IT'LL BE A      MASSACRE!

 

5. Sonic and his gang leap into action, led by the spiky one naturally.

 

Sonic:      HEY DON'T WORRY BUD! IF YOU'RE LUCKY WE MAY       GO EASY ON YOU!

 

PAGE 3.

 

1. Sonic leaps into the air, spinning as he goes - he looks a little like a spinning circular saw. He is heading in a direction that will take him above the heads of a group of pirates. They grin, thinking he has missed them. Throughout this page  it would be good if you could squeeze the other members of Sonic's gang fighting in the background.

 

Pirate:      HE... HE MISSED US!...

 

2. Sonic slices through a number of stalactites which are growing from the cave roof.

 

Sonic:      MISSED?! YOU BOYS DON'T KNOW ME VERY WELL...

 

3. The stalactites fall like spikes from the roof. None of the pirates are actually hit by the stalactites but they are disarmed or their clothing is pinned to the ground. Make the stalactites look a little like bars in front of the pirates they have been restrained by them. Sonic is in shot still moving fast.

 

Sonic:      ... I NEVER MISS!!

 

Pirate:      YAAARGGH!!

 

Pirate:      YYYEEEOW!
